DREAMS DO COME TRUE
A HUGE THANK YOU to the San Diego Architectural Foundation for raising funds on behalf of SDNOMA for a new scholarship. This scholarship will support one BIPOC high school student's dream to pursue a career in the AEC industry. The SDAF's 44th Annual Orchids + Onions Gala raised $7,500 and we will be awarding the funds to a student this fall.
SDNOMA knows that our strength lies not only in the words we stand by, but most importantly through the actions of our initiatives. The totality of events in the first half of 2020 has laid bare the racial inequities that exist in our communities. Together, the design community can be a force of change to overcome these challenges which is why we formed a local chapter of the National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA).

WE ARE STRONGER TOGETHER
BECOME A MENTOR/MENTEE
AIA San Diego's Women in Architecture & SDNOMA are issuing a joint call for mentors and mentees in the architecture, engineering, and construction industry within the San Diego area! All students and professionals within the design community are eligible to participate.
Our first event will be virtual speed mentorship held at the end of July, where we will gather all prospective mentors and mentees together and provide opportunities to discuss shared strengths and interests.
Registration/nominations for mentorship participants is open now through July 15th – click here for more information!
Join SDNOMA board member, Melina Aluwi for this upcoming webinar event. SDAF and SDNOMA are once again teaming up, this time to address an important issue in the design community: only 2% of licensed architects are black or African American. Join us for “Overcoming the 2%: Seeking Equity and Diversity in our Built Environment” where we will hear from a range of professionals, students and alumni of color pursuing and participating in professions across the built environment. The discussion will center on why this disparity exists and what we can do to change it.
To participate please visit http://sdaf.wildapricot.org/event-4252285 to register for this free event.
SDNOMA started off in 2020 with (8) members who share a passion for design, love of San Diego and dedication to JEDI in the profession. Click on the link above for video.
